Some distances:
Kisumu - Homa Bay = 110 km and Homa Bay - Mbita = 40 km,(road under re-construction 2010-2012)
Kisumu - Luanda Kotieno = 95 km
Carferry Luanda Kotieno- Mbita = 45 min.
from Mbita 7 am, 8 am, 10 am, 11 am, 2 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm,
from Luanda Kotieno 8 am, 9 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm
Kisii - Homa Bay = 60 km and Homa Bay - Mbita = 40 km,
Mbita - Ruma National Park = 25 km and Mbita - Gembe Hills (view point) = 16 km.
How to get there:
From Kericho
Take the Kisumu road to Kapsoit (about 20 km) turn left to Sondu (about 35km), turn left to Oyougis (about 37 km), go through Oyougis town and turn right to Rodi Kopany/Homa Bay (about 30 km) and then Homa bay from Rodi about 10 km, just befor Homa Bay turn left to Mbita, 40 km. Just before reaching Mbita there is a signboard to our place, which is then 2 km away.
It is about a 3 hours drive from Kericho to Safari Village.
From Kisumu, take the Busia road about 11-12 km up to Kisian, here turn left to Bondo. Drive along up to Ndori (about 36 km), and then turn left to Ndori and Luanda Kotieno. From Luanda Kotieno there is a car ferry (45 min) to Mbita.
Ferry times, see above. The ferry leaves on time. It will take
you about 1 1/2-2 hours comfortable driving from Kisumu up to the ferry.
